Tweet with simfy: New Desktop App Features Make Streaming Music Even More Attractive

Tuesday, 20. July 2010

Germany's leading music portal simfy has expanded its desktop application. Over 6.2 million songs can now be exchanged easily through social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Users can also register with simfy directly via the app.

Cologne, Germany; July 20, 2010 - Listening to music has just become even more convenient thanks to simfy's newly re-designed desktop app with expanded functionality. The application allows users to recommend songs to friends without having to go through the simfy Web site. Links to social networking sites allow fans to share new musical discoveries or personal favorites: The app makes it a snap for music lovers to find each other on Twitter, Facebook or last.fm.

"Another new feature of the simfy desktop app is more freedom from the simfy Web site. Users will now be able to download the app for free from other Web sites as well as to register with simfy directly from the desktop app. That makes joining simfy and using our services even easier," explains simfy founder Christoph Lange. At just 2.3 MB, the software program for installing the application is small enough to be e-mailed easily. The app enables users to register to gain access to 6.2 million songs without having to visit the simfy Web site.

In addition to its new design and improved usability, the main feature of the expanded desktop app is connectivity with social networking sites. Music lovers can now conveniently share and recommend songs using Twitter or Facebook. Fans can now also "scrobble" tunes to last.fm: When simfy users listen to a title, they can choose to have the basic song data - title and artist - submitted to last.fm and saved in their user profile. This allows users to create customized charts or identify fans with similar musical tastes as well as receive a selection of music specifically tailored to their preferences.

As in the past, the simfy desktop app allows premium users to enjoy simple and straightforward management of playlists, regardless of the browser they use. The drag-and-drop function makes using the program simple and intuitive, and selected titles are played immediately. This enables simfy to deliver better usability than many of its competitors - particularly compared with conventional download portals.

Music lovers can use the basic version of simfy free of charge. For EUR 9.99 per month, premium users benefit from additional features along with the desktop app. The permanent flat rate for music is already available to these users offline and anywhere via a mobile app for iPhone or Android mobile phones.

Simfy at a glance

With more than 1.7 million users, simfy is Germany's largest music platform and the market leader for online music solutions. Originally developed in 2006 by then-students Christoph Lange and Steffen Wicker to compare music download prices, simfy.de users today can access more than 6.2 million streamed songs, listen to music and compile playlists. The site is financed through advertising and a flat rate for music. The brand family of parent company Music Networx includes simfy, simfy live and simfy for brands.
